Introducing Our Training Programs

The massage program at Hawaii School of Professional Massage is a 594-hour program divided into 2 phases. Phase I is 150 hours in length and takes approximately 3 months to complete. The hands-on portion is held Monday and Wednesday (night classes) and Tuesday/Thursday (day classes). The lecture portions for day and night classes are held Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Phase II is 444 hours in length and takes approximately an additional 6 months to complete. During this phase, students obtain the valuable experience of massaging clients at the student clinic. As an alternative to Phase II, a student may enter an apprenticeship program. The entire program meets the State of Hawaii licensing requirements and can be completed in approximately 9 months.

Phase I (Basic Course)
During this class at our school of massage, students participate in 50 hours of anatomy, physiology, and structural kinesiology for massage therapists. We also provide 100 hours of in-class course work on theory, demonstration, and practice of massage therapy. Coursework and topics include:

 • Cells, Tissues, Joints, & Muscles
 • The Integumentary, Nervous, & Skeletal System
 • The Spinal Cord & Brain
 • The Autonomic, Endocrine, & Cardiovascular
   Systems
 • The Lymphatic, Respiratory, & Digestive Systems
 • Metabolism & the Urinary System
 • The Reproductive System

• Foundations of Structural Kinesiology
• Massage History & Massage Theory
• General Benefits of Massage
• Hygiene/Sanitation/Universal Precautions
• Standards of Practice & Ethics
• Body Mechanics
• Draping & Positioning/Specific Massage Strokes
• Assessment of Client Conditions
• Contraindications of Massage
• Full-Body Swedish/Relaxation Massages

 
Phase II (Student Clinic, 444 Hours)
The student clinic program at our school for massage allows students the opportunity to apply their massage skills. It is a very important phase where students improve their basic skills and acquire new skills that assure their advancement. The cost of the program is $100 per month and takes approximately 6 months (part time) to complete the 444 hours. The student clinic program includes:
